Mt. Hood Fall
September seems to have flown by. After joining Peg at Hood Canal over Labor Day, Chuck I and went to the beach at Yachats for 3 days (a combination of OTC meetings and hiking). The weather was fabulous and we saw whales from Cape Perpetua.
But most of our time has been at Mt. Hood hiking all of our favorite trails--Elk Meadows, Elk Cove, Lookout Mt., Devils Peak. We went off trail through Salmon River Meadows and managed to catch native cutthroat in the beaver ponds on Ghost Creek.
I went over to Central Oregon for a conference from Tuesday to Friday last week and was able to see Tom and Pat for a bit to catch up. It is hard to believe how fast Bend is growing!
Fall means getting ready for winter. We did inventory at the Snowshoe Club on the 20th and then loaded in all the winter supplies yesterday. It is quite a production given the number of people who use the cabin in the winter. When we left yesterday at 1PM it was snowing hard. Highway 35 is flooded out from the rains.
The deciduous trees are turning vivid yellow and red and the mushrooms are sprouting too. Every river on the mountain seems to be running the color of a latte.
Peg is in Beaverton this week so we should get a chance to see her and I'm going over to Chris and Ginny's to get Mandy's library books so I can return them at OSU.
